Theology of the Body Course (10 hours) via ZOOM
Sat 16, Sun 17, Sat 23, Sun 24 May 2020,1.30 pm – 4.00 pm

Considered as one of the greatest legacies of St John Paul II, this catechesis explains Catholic teachings through the lenses of the nuptial mystery. Understanding sexuaity, love and the meaning of life is critical not only to marriage and sexual morality, but concerns the entire Gospel, the Bible and in fact the whole Mission of Christ. A must for all in family and youth ministry and catechesis.

A live chat with Christopher West on Friday, 1 May 2020 at 9.00am (Singapore time)

Registration for this event is closed.

Theology of the Body (TOB) is the topic of a series of 129 lectures given by Pope John Paul II during his Wednesday audiences in St. Peter’s Square and the Paul VI Audience Hall between September 5, 1979, and November 28, 1984.The complete addresses were later compiled and expanded upon in many of John Paul’s encyclicals, letters, and exhortations.

Through an in-depth reflection on the Scriptures, John Paul seeks to answer two of the most important, universal questions: (1) “What’s it mean to be human?” and (2) “How do I live my life in a way that brings true happiness and fulfillment?” The Pope’s teaching, therefore, isn’t just about sex and marriage. Since our creation as male and female is the “fundamental fact of human existence” (Feb 13, 1980), the theology of the body affords “the rediscovery of the meaning of the whole of existence, the meaning of life” (Oct 29, 80).

Christopher West is a world renowned speaker and author, regarded as one of the main experts and divulgers of this Theology. His books, talks and videos of the TOB have helped to break down this seemingly “dense” teaching into understandable materials that have helped so many appreciate and experience its redemptive power.

The TOB team of the Apostolate for Catholic Truth (ACT) in Singapore is extremely honoured and happy to have this opportunity to interview Christopher West himself, live, via video conferencing.

To prepare for this live chat, listeners are encouraged to run through at least one of the many youtube videos featuring Christopher’s talks on this subject.

Theology of the Body (TOB) : Understanding our origin, brokenness and salvation [Via Zoom Video-Conferencing]

Date: Friday 1 May 2020
Time: 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm (Singapore Time)
Venue: via Zoom video-conferencing software
Target audience: Parents and Catechists

Click here for the registration link. Registration will be closed at 12.30pm on 1 May 2020.

This symposium aims to help participants develop a deeper understanding of
1. Our Origin
2. Our Brokenness as we have experienced it, and
3. The Salvation which is ours to claim.

If we are really made for joy, why then is our world so broken? What does it mean to be saved by Jesus when the world continues to be a place where suffering is encountered? Lastly, what does all this have to do with human sexuality, the story of Adam and Eve and what it means to be man and woman?

By exploring the links between the book of Genesis, Jesus’ message on the sermon of the mount, and our universal human experiences, the theology of the Body enables all people to verify the truths of Christian revelation echoed in their own experience.

By starting from human experience enlightened by the truths of divine revelation, the theology of the body is John Paul II’s unique contribution to the “New Evangelization” “new in ardor, methods and expression” and is a must know for all involved in faith formation who are eager to reach the current and future generations for Christ and his Church.

The Speaker:
Mr Nick Chui has an undergraduate degree in history from the National University of Singapore and also a Masters in Theological Studies from the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family, which is affiliated to the Pontifical Lateran University. He has over a decade of experience in the work of catechesis and evangelization and has written articles in this field, which have appeared in popular and academic publications. He is currently a member of the Catholic Theology Network, an association of Christ’s faithful dedicated to the intellectual formation of the laity. He has been involved in delivering TOB sessions in Singapore and was involved in conferences organized by Archdiocesan Commission for the family such as Humanae Vitae and TOB Conferences in 2018 and 2019 respectively. He is married to his beautiful wife Geraldine.
